Gap Analysis

Competency & Behavioral Models

Competency Models have become a popular method for:

A well-designed Competency Model is top of mind and well understood by your employees.  It should be relevant and focussed on the most important skill sets of your team, and simple to understand. For greatest success, your competency model should have a specific behavioral element. Behavioral Models detail the key specific behaviors behind each identified competency in a way that helps employees and managers understand “what good/ great looks like.”  A Behavioral Model defines the differences in which behaviors meet, exceed, or are below performance expectations.  

A Behavioral Model is a powerful tool to help employees clearly understand what good performance looks like. By specifically describing the behaviors your organization values, your employees gain clarity on what is expected and what is rewarded. If a well-constructed Behavioral Model maps to your Competency Model, and the Competency Model maps to your Vision, your organization can gain a clear pathway toward to improved performance and results.


Behavioral Models are also a powerful tool to assist in calibration of your leadership team to ensure fairness of assessing employees,  minimizing bias, and providing guidance for consistency in the coaching and the Performance Management Process.
